Russell Wermers, PhD, MBA

Russ Wermers is an Associate Professor of Finance at the Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland at College Park, where he won a campus-wide teaching award during Spring 2005. His main research interests include the measurement and attribution of the performance of asset managers, as well as the relative merit of various quantitative stock selection models. Professor Wermers has published in The American Economic Review, The Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, The Journal of Financial Economics, and The Journal of Finance. In addition, he is under contract to write a book on performance evaluation and attribution that is being written with both practitioners and academics in mind.

Professor Wermers has significant experience as an expert witness. He has worked on a number of successful cases for the Securities and Exchange Commission, regarding alleged market timing and late trading by various defendants. In addition, he has worked on an intellectual property case for a defendant accused of improperly using a proprietary stock-selection model. Professor Wermers has filed several expert reports, as well as having deposition and cross-examination experience in these cases.
